The America festival is back for an evening

20 years after its debut, the America festival returns for an exceptional evening entitled “The wounds of America”, 530 years after the arrival of Christopher Columbus in America and the encounter between the Old and the New World. This evening with four authors on America’s wounds and the hopes it still carries will take place on Friday, September 24, at 8:30 p.m. in the city of Vincennes.

Three writers are invited, Louis-Philippe Dalembert (Milwaukee Blues, Sabine Wespieser), Julien Delmaire (Delta Blues, Grasset) and Eddy L. Harris (Mississippi in the skin, Liana Levi), will discuss “America’s wounds yesterday and today in works that appear in the fall.

For his part, Elizabeth Colomba, painter and designer, brought to life in a graphic novel (Queenie, the godmother of Harlem, Anne Carrière, with Aurélie Lévy) the figure of Stéphanie St. Clair, a French woman with an extraordinary destiny, in the Harlem of the Roaring Twenties.

A moving tenth edition

This event will make you wait until the next edition. The organizers of the event have decided to postpone the tenth edition by two years, which was to take place in September 2020 in Vincennes. The event was canceled due to a pandemic, then postponed to 2021 and postponed again for 2022. The tenth edition is scheduled for September 22 to 25, 2022.

In 2018, the 9th edition of the festival, dedicated to Canadian literatures, with some thirty guest writers, English and French, welcomed 40,000 visitors. The 2018 edition also echoed the struggle of women and the #metoo movement.
