The 27-inch iMac a little more pro

We expected it in the heart of summer, Apple did not disappoint: the iMac range is refreshed! The 27 inch all-in-one host 10th generation Core chips, in three flavors: 6-core Core i5 at 3.1 GHz (4.5 GHz Turbo Boost) and 3.3 GHz (4.8 GHz Turbo Boost), and a high range equipped with a Core i7 @ 3.8 GHz with Turbo Boost at 5 GHz. The SSD is standard (from 256 to 512 GB), and like the iMac Pro they all have a T2 chip. Incredible but true, the FaceTime camera is now at 1080p ????!

No change regarding the RAM endowment, we stay with 8 GB of DDR4 at 2666 MHz, but we can go up to 128 GB (double what was possible before). RAM is always accessible from its small hatch at the back of the machine. The GPU is evolving: it is now a Radeon Pro 5300 equipped with 4 GB of GDDR6 memory (5500 XT with 8 GB on the high end). The screen remains in 5K obviously, but the iMac embeds the True Tone and an optional nano-textured glass, as on the Pro Display XDR, for amateurs who will have to add 625 € to the bill.

The T2 chip supports data security, but that’s not all: the on-chip image signal processor works in conjunction with the webcam to improve the quality of video output. In addition, these machines carry a new set of “studio quality” microphones. The prices are The following :

  • 2 099 € : Core i5 @ 3,1 GHz (Turbo Boost 4,5 GHz), 256 Go de SSD , Radeon Pro 5300.
  • € 2,299: Core i5 @ 3.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 4.8 GHz), 512 GB SSD (up to 2 TB optional), Radeon Pro 5300.
  • € 2,599: Core i7 @ 3.8 GHz (Turbo Boost 5 GHz), 512 GB SSD (up to 8 TB optional), Radeon Pro 5500 XT.

Among the available options, in addition to nano-textured glass, we can equip ourselves with 128 GB of RAM (+ € 3,250 ????), swap Gigabit Ethernet for 10 Gigabit Ethernet (+ € 125 that Apple does not have wanted to offer basic ????), a Core i9 @ 3.6 GHz chip for the two high-end iMacs (from € 505 to € 625 more depending on the model chosen). The all-in-one with Core i7 can benefit from a replacement of its graphics card: Radeon Pro 5700 with 8 GB of memory (+ € 375) or Radeon Pro 5700 XT with 16 GB of memory (+ € 625).

The high-end “big potato” version costs € 10,128.

It is not impossible that we are here in the presence of the ultimate range of iMac equipped with Intel processors, before the big switch to Apple Silicon chips (and a new design?) At the end of this year.
