The 24th International Ice Sculpture Festival ended in Jelgava with songs and dances: Jelgava

On the final day of the festival, the festive program was introduced by fun play performances of the Jelgava New Theater for the whole family, as well as a performance for children by the creative association “Teātris un Es”. On Jānis Čakste boulevard and in the open-air concert hall “Mītava” there were demonstrations of sculpture creation, performed by sculptors Ainars Zingniks and Zīles Ozoliņas-Schneideres.

On the other hand, Sanita Rāviņa and Kārlis Īle held exciting duels of sculptural art on the stage of the “Mītava” concert hall, creating ice sculptures in front of the visitors and discovering ways to make the ice material “obedient”. Sunday evening’s cultural program was concluded by the concerts of musical groups “Pērkons” and “Bermudu Divstūris”, popular in Latvia, whose visitors were singing and dancing along from the first words of the songs.

It should be reminded that on the first day of the festival, February 3, at the official opening of the event, the winners of the ice sculpture competition were awarded, the visitors got to know the ice sculptures created in the competition, and the evening ended with two concerts in the open-air concert hall “Mītava”, where the group “Rīgas Modes” and hip-hop artist “Ozols”.

On Saturday, February 4, in addition to enjoying ice art, visitors in the open-air concert hall “Mītava” went to play with the Ādolfs Alunāns Jelgava Theater in the performance “Shurumburums in the Land of Lauska” and danced together with the creative association “Pasaku Nams” in the concert performance “Konfektes otsats”. On the other hand, in the second half of the day, on Jānis Čakste boulevard, they watched the work of sculptors creating ice sculptures. The program of the second day ended with sculptors’ demonstration duels in creating ice sculptures and musical performances – concerts of the musical association “Big Al&The Jokers” and the group “The ROOP”.

We would like to remind you that on Monday, February 6, traffic will be closed on Jānis Čakste boulevard, Driksas street and Ūdens street until 8:00 p.m. during the site arrangement and festival equipment dismantling works.

The International Ice Sculpture Festival was organized by the city of Jelgava and JVPI “Kultūra” with the support of the companies “Ramirent” and “Husqvarna”.
