The 2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou, make e-sports a serious gold medal sport. Elevated from the previous time that was just a demonstration
The announcement comes as a result of a resolution at the Asian Olympic Committee (OCA) in Oman, becoming the first national sporting event to count medals from a serious videogame tournament. It is classified in a category using the same idea as a chess game.
In the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta is hosted. The esports event used to be a demo sport before, in six games: Arena of Valor, Hearthstone, League of Legends, StarCraft II, Clash Royale and Pro Evolution Soccer 2018.
The plan to bring esports into the real competition started in 2017 when the organizers partnered with Alibaba Group to drive the idea. But when announcing the first sports list, it was still not certified
For the latest announcement Esports and breakdance are two new faces to join. A total of 40 sports are scheduled to be played between 10 and 25 September 2022.
