You can get married cheaply. But you can also spend thousands of euros. A new survey shows how much Germans spend on average on their wedding.
As a couple in Las Vegas or sprawling with hundreds of guests in the ballroom: the ideas of the perfect wedding vary widely. Many choose to take the middle ground and celebrate with their closest family and a select selection of friends. But even small celebrations can swallow a lot of money. Wedding rings, invitation cards, decorations, wedding dress, room rental etc. pp.: Many different items add up. Although many guests give money, the couple usually still has to pay the costs.
In the study “So marries Germany 2022”, the company Kartenmacherei determined, among other things, how much money Germans spend on their wedding. 1,095 women and men in Germany were surveyed in the form of an online survey from February 11 to March 2, 2022. The amount of the wedding budget considered appropriate varied considerably. But most decide on a price range: 26 percent of those surveyed planned 10,000 to 15,000 euros for their wedding.
How much money to spend on a wedding? Thousands of euros flow
10,000 to 15,000 euros is the wedding budget most frequently given by Germans. But there are also many who want to get married cheaper – or much more expensive. The survey results in detail:
- One in four couples (26 percent of survey respondents) are investing 10,000 to 15,000 euros for wedding and preparations.
- 20 percent of respondents give between 5,000 and 10,000 euros out for her wedding.
- Another 20 percent want no more than 5.000 Euro take in hand.
- Fourteen percent of Germans give 15,000 to 20,000 euros out for her big day.
- For seven percent of those surveyed, it should be a lavish and expensive party: with a budget of over 20.000 Euro.
Especially in Saxony-Anhalt, couples really let it rip: 20 percent spend 25,000 to 30,000 euros on their wedding here. The wedding in Hamburg or Berlin may cost more than 30,000 euros. In the Hanseatic city it was six percent of those surveyed who paid more and five percent in Berlin. Too high a sum for many. When it comes to affordable weddings, Saxony-Anhalt is once again ahead: According to the Kartenmacherei survey, 20 percent of the couples surveyed want to spend less than 1,000 euros on their wedding.
