I’m slowly one of the oldest, I perceive it. When I was younger, I said I wouldn’t play after thirty and I’m still here. As long as health permits, I will be happy to continue. When I play matches, it doesn’t even seem strange to me. I have a desire to keep improving, so that’s just the way it is. If that’s not the case, I won’t play tennis. I appreciate the chance that I can still play it, so I want to squeeze the maximum out of it.

Petra Kvitová still enjoys tennis.
Vlastimil Vacek, Right
You played the finals in Melbourne last year. Are you expecting something similar from yourself?
It’s not that easy to time a form. The training block in Dubai was big for me. I have to listen to the body, I must not overdo it. Training is different from the matches I prefer. But I need training to step up, last longer, be more explosive and not get hurt.
What has 2020 tested you the most?
The most annoying for me was the first lockdown, when there were no tournaments and only training. It was not pleasant. They have to improvise in tennis, and I do that all the time, the whole world and the tennis world is now with a question mark. I won’t do anything about it and wait for it to turn out. But over the years, I’ve found that I’d rather be on the court than just spend time in a hotel. That’s not nice.
When you package a script …
(Smiles) I study Business Law at Jan Amos Comenius University in Prague. I’m at the beginning, but so far I enjoy it. I’ve studied another field before. But now I will try to devote more time to it.
Does that mean the end of your career is approaching?
I didn’t take it that way. Rather, so that my brain doesn’t completely soften.
