Danny Masterson, best known for his role in That 70s Show, yesterday denied that he raped three women between 2001 and 2003. The 44-year-old actor, who has been charged with rape, did so during a hearing in a court in Los Angeles. It was the first time he had to appear in court in the case.

According to Masterson, he is being prosecuted ‘for being a prominent one is a member of Scientology. His attorney filed a petition to dismiss the charges. The judge will decide on this request on 19 October. Then Masterson is expected back in court.

The actor was arrested in June and then released on bail. If Masterson is convicted, he could face a 45-year prison sentence.

The actor is accused of raping a 23-year-old woman between January and December 2001, a 28-year-old woman in April 2003 and another 23-year-old woman at his Hollywood home between October and December 2003. The investigations into the offenses have been running since 2016. It took him a year later for his role in the Netflix series The Ranch.

According to the judiciary, there are two other charges but they are not included because there is insufficient evidence and the second case is time-barred.
