Thailand U23: Coach Wang Previews Asian Qualifiers

‘Coach Wang‘ Eyes Group Stage Victory as ThailandU23 Prepares for Asian Championship⁣ Qualifiers

BANGKOK, September 2, 2025 – Thailand U23 head ⁢coach Thawatchai Damrong ⁤Ongtrakul, nicknamed “Coach Wang,”⁢ today expressed‍ confidence ahead of the AFC U23​ Championship‌ 2026 Qualifiers, marking his ‌second tournament ‍leading the team. The press​ conference, held‌ at the Thammasat ‌Stadium, outlined preparations⁣ for Group F matches against Malaysia,‍ Lebanon, and ⁣mongolia.

“This ⁤tournament is my ​2nd tournament with the Thai national ⁤team U23. Previously we played in ​the ASEAN Championship in Indonesia. This is a continuous program, and we have many of the⁣ same core players,” Coach Wang stated. ​He ⁣acknowledged ‍recent club commitments for‍ some players but affirmed⁣ their readiness. “We went‌ to Indonesia first,‌ and we’re prepared.”

The coach ⁤emphasized a focus on winning the ​group,while‌ respecting their opponents. “We want ⁤to be a group champion, but we do not underestimate the ⁢opponent. We will⁣ try⁤ to do our best.”

Addressing concerns about previous scoring difficulties, Coach Wang‌ highlighted the ⁢team’s performance in⁢ Indonesia, were thay scored 8⁤ goals in 3 matches, with the exception of a draw against Myanmar.

The squad includes both experienced players like thanakrit Chotin and ⁢Muang Pak, and newcomers​ such as Iclass and Je Hanafi. “The players⁤ we’ve​ called in are quite quality. We still have to adjust ⁢to ⁢each⁤ other, ⁣but this mix will make our attacking game‌ diverse,” he explained.

Coach Wang appealed to Thai football fans for support during the home qualifying round. “I want you to encourage us a lot.”

The champions‍ of all 11 ⁤qualifying groups,along with the four‍ best runners-up,will ⁢advance to the‌ final round of the AFC U23 Championship 2026,to be held in Saudi Arabia from January 7-25,2026.
