“Thailand Emerges as Competitor for Electric Vehicle Production, Says Indonesian Deputy Deputy for Coordinating Infrastructure and Transportation”

Jakarta

Deputy for Coordinating Infrastructure and Transportation at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Rachmat Kaimuddin said Thailand is Indonesia’s competitor in producing electric vehicles. Currently, several manufacturers have entered Thailand, for example electric vehicles from China, BYD.

“There is another Horizon brand, Mitsubishi wants to enter, frankly, there is one more global brand that is currently comparing us to Thailand. So this is our competitor,” he said in a media briefing at the Sari Pan Pacific Hotel, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (31/5 /2023).

He said, Thailand has a significant capacity in producing electric vehicles. On the other hand, the country also provides several incentives for electric vehicles.

“In fact, the form is not only import duties, not just other fiscal incentives, but he gives cash subsidies. That’s what they provide so that the car becomes affordable (affordable) for the people there,” he said.

In detail, Thailand has cut import duties, then PPnBM (Sales Tax on Luxury Goods) by 2%, then VAT by 7%, and incentives in the form of cash of US $ 2,032.

Indonesia, said Rachmat, has started to be similar to other countries which provide incentives for electric vehicles. One of them is by providing VAT incentives (Value Added Tax) of 10%.
