Tesla secured a new patent

In 2019, the news site Electrek wrote that Tesla worked with technology that uses laser beams to remove debris from the windshield of cars. Two years later, Tesla has secured a patent for the technology.

The patent is called “Pulsed laser cleaning of debris accumulated on glass articles in vehicles and photovoltaic assemblies” and should, according to Tesla, make it more efficient to get rid of rain and other unwanted material from windshields, solar panels and other significant surfaces. In addition to that it looks incredibly futuristic and bold.

During the presentation of the prototype of the Cybertruck, someone noticed that it was not equipped with windshield wipers, which led some to speculate that Tesla had actually managed to complete the technology. It is unclear how far Tesla has come to realize the project, but they have also had other ideas about replacing wipers with something else.

Electrek also wrote back in 2019 that Tesla was working on developing electromagnetic wipers as a replacement for the traditional wipers for which they also applied for a patent. The goal of this wild investment is to find a better balance between hiding the wipers when not in use, which is the new standard for luxury vehicles, and that they are at the same time efficient when you first need them.
