The problems can cause the rear view camera on the cars to be deactivated or the door to the luggage compartment to open unexpectedly. Tesla has made two separate recalls of the cars and will repair the fault free of charge.
The largest recall applies to more than 355,000 Model 3 cars, while the other applies to almost 120,000 Model S cars.
Tesla says they do not know that any cars have collided due to the problems.
