The Davis Cup players Dennis Novak, Sebastian Ofner and Jurij Rodionov as well as Julia Grabher had already agreed to talk to Barbara Haas, the ÖTV said. Jürgen Melzer also asked for a wildcard. Of the red-white-red aces, only number three in the world, Dominic Thiem, should be missing.
“We at ÖTV are very relieved that the state championships can be held during these challenging times – and with an unprecedented top field,” said ÖTV President Christina Toth.
ÖTV is working on a concept with an audience
Since the current government regulations stipulate a ban on events until at least the end of June, it is still unclear whether spectators can follow the action on the pitch. “Now we are emphatically working on a concept – analogous to the culture – under which conditions it would be possible to admit viewers live on site,” said Toth.
“We have not yet written off the state championships in duplicate and are in close contact with the responsible ministries,” said the ÖTV President. According to the current government regulations, only individuals can be played.
ORF Sport + broadcasts live
The tournament, which after the “Austrian Pro Series” brings the second domestic highlight in a row at the end of May, will be broadcast live on ORF Sport + on all five main days of the competition. A livestream on the ÖTV website is also being planned. “For us, the state championships are the flagship event alongside the Bundesliga and the Davis Cup,” said ÖTV managing director Thomas Schweda.
