TENNIS ONLINE: Plíšková broke the curse. Krejčíková and Kvitová are also in the quarterfinals

Czech tennis players are currently at the tournament in Cincinnati, USA. In the opening round, only Markéta Vondroušová dropped out, who was eliminated in the repeat of the Olympic final by Belinda Bencicová, with whom Karolína Muchová will play from 2:30 CET. Barbora Krejčíková has already won the quarterfinals, defeating Garbiňa Muguruzaová from Spain 6: 1, 6: 7, 6: 2. Petra Kvitová defeated the Tunisian woman Ons Džabúrová 6: 1, 6: 2. Karolína Plíšková defeated a very unpleasant opponent for her – home Jessica Pegula 6: 4, 7: 6.

Krejčíková entered the duel of two grand slam winners well and won the first set in 29 minutes. However, the former Wimbledon champion Muguruza then got up and won the tie-break of the second set 7: 5 and was the first to take the Czech player in the Cincinnati set.

In the decisive set, Krejčíková was on top again, and even though Muguruzaová averted five match points, the Czech Republic ended the match during the opponent’s serve. The winner of the tournament from 2017 thus retaliated against the defeat from the only mutual match so far, in which she lost in the final in Dubai in March.

Krejčíková’s next opponent will be Ashleigh Barty, who defeated Victoria Azarenková from Belarus 6-0 and 6-2 in the round of 16. So far, the 25-year-old Czech has competed with the Australian tennis player only in the eighth finals of this year’s Wimbledon, where the world number one defeated her in two sets on the way to the title.

Kvitová has fought Jabur twice so far, and each time it was a clear matter when she did not allow her opponent to play even a hundred. It was similar this time.

Plíšková broke the curse. After four losses to Pegula, she won.

Karolína Muchová will present herself as the last of the Czech players against the conqueror Vondroušová from the opening round and from the final of the Olympic Games Bencicová. This will be the first mutual encounter between the two tennis players.
