TENNIS ONLINE: A challenge for Krejčíková, in the fight for the quarterfinals she faces the world number two

Krejčíková fought Halepová four years ago and lost 1: 2 in sets in Bucharest. The Romanian was then world number five. Krejčíková has not yet beat a player from the top 30 in singles.

She got her biggest scalp in Prague, where in 2016 she defeated Slovakia Dominika Cibulková, who was then in 38th place.

The Canadian, Eugenie Bouchardová, is already in the quarterfinals. She defeated Slovenia Tamara Zidanšeková after two hours and 52 minutes 7: 6, 6: 7 and 6: 2.

Twenty-six-year-old Bouchard won the first set in a tie-break with a ratio of 7: 2, but lost the second with the same score in the shortened game. In the decisive set, the former world number five, which is now up to 330th place in the ranking, took the lead 5: 1. A game later, she averted her breakball and, during the first match, she clenched her fist victoriously after her opponent’s mistake.

“It was hard, she’s a fighter and you can’t rest. I’m excited that I managed it in the third set, I tried to dictate exchanges. I gained an edge and already believed,” Bouchardová said in an interview on Czech Television.

In Friday’s quarterfinals, Bouchard will face tournament trio Elise Mertens from Belgium, with whom she did not even win a set in two mutual matches.

The Prague Open is played with a $ 225,500 grant behind closed doors without fans and is the second WTA event after the coronavirus break.
