Ten years in a minute: Spectacular time-lapse of the sun – research and technology – knowledge

In the past ten years, NASA’s solar research satellite has taken 425 million high-resolution photos of the sun (a new one every 0.75 seconds), which is 20 million gigabytes of data. The goal of the NASA mission is to find out more about the star closest to Earth.

The US space agency has used these images to create and publish a 61-minute time-lapse video. There are also several “black holes” to be seen. Then the earth or the moon obscured the research satellite’s view of the sun. In 2016 there were also technical problems, as NASA reports.

And yet another almost unbelievable number: The costs for the research satellite and its first five years of operation have been calculated at around $ 856 million. The magazine “Nature” wrote this at the start of the 2010 mission.
