Temporarily no celebrations in church Lievelde after performances by DJ and band

There are temporarily no celebrations in the Christ the King Church in Lievelde. The hosts have also been removed from the church. The parish priest of the St Paulus parish has decided to do this, because he thinks that the church in the Achterhoek has been desecrated by performances by a band and a DJ.

The performance was an initiative of the local fair committee, which wanted to offer an alternative to the canceled fair. Artists played on Saturday at three different locations in Lievelde, of which the church was one. The performances could be followed via a live stream.

A DJ and a band performed in the church. Permission was requested in advance from the location council. He agreed to the request. “It was a beautiful evening, we did not hear a negative sound,” says chairman Agnes Ostenk of the Location Council of the Christ King Faith Community Lievelde to Omroep Gelderland.

Pastor angry

However, the pastor disagreed and temporarily closed the church. He also removed all hosts, because they were allegedly desecrated by the performance. The pastor also reported the incident to Cardinal Eijk in Utrecht.

The pastor did not want to respond to Omroep Gelderland and referred to the diocese. According to a spokesperson, it is no longer possible to simply hold a service in the church. “There will be a penitent first. It is necessary to make the church suitable for the liturgy again.”
