Telkom office burned, Telkomsel network paralyzed in Pekanbaru

Liputan6.com, Pekanbaru – Network Telkomsel in Pekanbaru and several other areas in Riau have been inaccessible since Tuesday afternoon, August 11, 2020. Temporary allegations, this is because the Telkom and Grapari Telkomsel buildings on Jalan Hang Tuah, Pekanbaru, caught fire.

In the multi-story building, dense smoke seemed to rise into the air. Flames are still visible on several floors where Telkom operators, Telkomsel, as well as other internet providers operating it.

To extinguish the fire, the Pekanbaru Fire Service and Disaster Management Agency deployed eight fire engines. As of Tuesday afternoon, the blackout was still ongoing.

This incident not only paralyzed the cellular telephone network. The office or home internet originating from this state-owned company cannot be accessed at all.

Head of Pekanbaru Damkar and BPBD Burhan Gurning explained that the fire was suspected to have originated from the second floor of the Telkom building. The fire allegedly came from an electric shorted spark on the floor.

“Incidentally this afternoon, he was passing by, holding HT. See the thick smoke I immediately contacted the members because of the telephone network Telkomsel can’t be used, “said Burhan.

Burhan has communicated with Telkom. The company acknowledged that the fire caused the cellular and internet networks in Pekanbaru to be completely paralyzed.

“This disturbance, according to a Telkom person, could take one week. But we hope Telkomsel will fix it soon,” said Burhan.
