The Basque Government has launched Agenda Main TV, an internet television channel aimed at the elderly that seeks to cope with unwanted loneliness.
The internet television channel has been presented in Bilbao by the Minister of Equality, Beatriz Artolazabal, with Nora sarasola, director of the BBK Welfare Projects and the image of Mrs. Mercedes, emblem of the “Invisible Soledad” campaign that last year drew attention to unwanted loneliness.
Although it is difficult to quantify how many people are in a situation of unwanted loneliness, in Euskadi according to the latest Eustat data there are 263,000 people who live alone. Of these, almost 43%, 112,500, are over 64 years old, and 27,900 of these, 85 years or older.

“Also here, the gender perspective is essential, almost three out of every four elderly people who live alone, specifically 73%, are women”, as explained by the counselor.
Artolazabal has clarified that “living alone or alone and feeling alone are different situations”, but has put the accent on those who feel alone, since “far from being a passing circumstance, for a large number of people it is an emotional state that it involves recurring suffering and anguish. “
Nagusi TV Agenda has emerged for them, an “on line” channel that offers a training and consultative space.
In the Web page www.agendanagusitv.eus Five television programs, lasting approximately one hour, will be published before the end of 2020. The broadcast of the first program has already been seen by a thousand people.
Each of these programs has six sections that combine interviews, gatherings, contributions from experts, opinions taken at street level and entertainment.
The Nagusi TV web space is complemented by a conference section and another space reserved for videos and documents related to the issue. This channel facilitates interaction, through different options and questionnaires that allow collecting opinions.
The counselor has concluded by announcing that this legislature hopes to approve an Interinstitutional Plan to combat unwanted loneliness
