Television channel critical of Ortega denounces “blatant robbery” of its headquarters

Managua, Dec 23 (EFE) .- The television channel 100% Noticias, critical of the Government of the President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, denounced this Wednesday what they have called a “blatant robbery” of its facilities, which are seized for two years in the context of the sociopolitical crisis that the country has been experiencing since April 2018.

The building where 100% Noticias worked, which is guarded by police officers, woke up with a sign announcing: “This property belongs to the Ministry of Health,” according to Efe.

On the label, pink and with government emblems, it also reads: “The center of attention for people with alcoholism and / or drug addiction will be built here.”

The government has not explained the award process for the facilities where 100% Noticias operated, which it also removed from the open signal and cable service.

Efe has tried to obtain an official explanation from the Ministry of Health about the procedure against the headquarters of 100% Noticias, but this has not been possible.

“CONFISCATION OF FACT”

“This is a blatant theft and a de facto confiscation,” said 100% Noticias founder and owner, journalist Miguel Mora, whose channel, which now broadcasts through digital platforms, shared photos and videos of the government label.

Mora maintained that he has not been notified if there has been a confiscatory decree or a judicial resolution on the assets seized from 100% Noticias.

On December 21, 2018, the Nicaraguan Police raided and seized the building where 100% Noticias operated, and detained Mora, as well as the press officer, Lucía Pineda.

Both Mora and Pineda were released in June 2019 under a controversial Amnesty Law, however the television channel 100% Noticias is still occupied by the Police and off the air in open signal and on the cable service.

“It is an armed robbery, it is a violation of private property and it is a message that none of your property is yours,” said Mora, who after being released from prison joined the opposition National Coalition that seeks to defeat election to the Sandinistas in the November 2021 elections.

MESSAGE FOR INVESTORS AND BUSINESSMEN

“The message is to each and every Nicaraguan: you do not own your private property, your house, nothing. It is a message to entrepreneurs, from the smallest to the largest. It is a message to the investors: private property is not respected in Nicaragua, “he continued.

According to Mora, “the dictatorship”, as he refers to the Government of Daniel Ortega (in power since 2007), has shattered “democracy and justice” and that now in Nicaragua “there is no justice, there is no democracy, there is no freedoms, there is no right, there is no private property, there is nothing, there is no respect, because that is what the dictators say and intend to do “.

Likewise, he described as “a ridiculous act of desperation to put a sign at night”, as “thieves”, on private property.

“They are exposing themselves as vulgar thieves,” criticized the journalist, for whom the government, with these acts, “is digging its own grave” and “Cubanizing” Nicaragua.

In his opinion, the Sandinista government is desperate and terrified “because the people reject them” less than a year before the next general elections are held, and “that is why they tighten the repression to the maximum” and pass laws that seek to disqualify opponents to run for popularly elected positions.

For her part, the co-director of 100% Noticias, Verónica Chávez, described as “another act of illegality of the Daniel Ortega regime” the installation of that sign that strips them of their headquarters.

Since April 2018, Nicaragua has experienced a socio-political crisis that has left at least 328 dead, according to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), although local organizations raise the figure to 684 and the Government recognizes 200 and denounces an alleged attempted coup of State.
