Telethon collects 7.4 million córdobas and its service centers will continue working part-time

The Telethon 2021 of Nicaragua has collected just over 7.4 million córdobas until this Sunday, February 21, reported its executive director Orlando Sevilla.

Seville stressed that the collection has not yet been completed, a process that will culminate in about a month, to give the opportunity to those people who did not have time to donate. «No goal (of collection) was established, we said that the goal was set by the heart of each Nicaraguan. We lack a little bit to get to have the necessary funds (for the centers to operate without problems), ”said the director of Telethon Nicaragua.

Fundación Teletón Nicaragua has three regional care centers for children with any type of motor, hearing, visual or intellectual disability or with conditions such as autism, ADHD or down syndrome, among others. The centers are located in Ocotal, Juigalpa and Chinandega and, for their proper functioning, at least 15 million córdobas are needed, Sevilla said.

They will maintain free care

The centers served by Teletón Nicaragua, which will continue to provide free care, only operate through resources collected by the Foundation and have no other source of funding.

At the moment, Sevilla said, Telethon Nicaragua does not have a center of attention in Managua but they hope that in the future they may have it in the capital and also in southern Nicaragua.

Sevilla pointed out that they hope to collect more in the month in which the collection is extended, but with what has already been obtained, work will continue in the three centers with the staff working part-time and with combined attention to children, in person and with telemedicine.

The three centers operated with telemedicine during 2020, during the strong months of the Covid-19 pandemic, but face-to-face care, always taking preventive measures, was restored last October.

A “party” of national unity

Regarding Telethon 2021, Seville highlighted that it was “a national unity party”, as many people throughout the country joined together and forgot about any kind of difference to work for the collection of resources for children cared for in the centers.

In some communities, “enchilatones”, “tajadatones” and many creative activities were held to raise funds.

Finally, Seville mentioned that this Telethon was also significant for the record participation of international artists in a virtual way and for a transmission that was made of the event on Facebook Live, reproduced on YouTube, which lasted 15 and a half hours, something that is not known had seen in Nicaragua.

In about a month there will be a press conference to provide a full report on Telethon 2021, said Sevilla.
