The fire broke out in the middle of the night. At around 3.45 am the flames were already blowing from the roof and through the windows on the street side. It was also a blaze at the back of the building. Local residents also heard loud explosions. Firefighters from at least four firefighting posts arrived on site to extinguish the fire. That was very difficult, due to the strong wind of storm Odette. The fire brigade did get the fire under control, but had to extinguish it for a long time.
The telecom shop and the house next to the shop have been completely destroyed. The owners were not at home, so no one was injured. The Bruges public prosecutor’s office has appointed an expert to investigate the cause of the fire.
