Teenagers who shot at trains with ball guns receive a work sentence at NS | NOW

Two 15-year-old boys who shot a train on the route between Tilburg and Breda in November last year were sentenced to a 30-hour work sentence at the Dutch Railways. That confirms a spokesperson for the Zeeland-West-Brabant court on Thursday afternoon after reporting by Broadcasting Brabant.

The two must also jointly pay 15,000 euros to the Dutch railway company and receive twenty hours of apprenticeship. The compensation is the damage suffered by NS, a spokesperson confirms to NU.nl.

The judge finds that there are “serious facts”, but finds it positive that the young perpetrators have started a conversation with the Dutch Railways. The boys have also written an apology letter.

An intercity train arrived on Friday, November 22 at Breda station with fifteen shattered windows. A train with a broken window also arrived on a platform at Eindhoven station. No people were injured.

The boys could be arrested that same evening because a resident from Dorst had seen a group of young people with a possible firearm. The pair had a ball gun and a gas pressure gun with steel balls. The weapons have been seized, it is not yet clear how the teenagers got the guns.
