Teenager shot dead near her Bronx home – NBC New York

NEW YORK – A teenager was shot dead in a block in the Bronx Sunday night and was the latest victim of gun violence in New York City. This is after a series of other shootings that took place over the weekend in that county that resulted in injuries to people.

Officers who responded to requests for gunshots Beekman Avenue, in the Mott Haven neighborhood, Jordany Mercedes, 17, was found bled to death on the same block he calls home, NYPD officials said. Neighbors told police that at least two shots were heard at around 6pm, but few approached after witnessing the shooting.

“I was sitting there when I heard the shots. I didn’t move because I didn’t want to get hurt, bullets have no name. And then I heard someone scream and scream and they all ran down the block, ”Celia Albergotti said.

Investigators were still looking for a reason at the end of the weekend, but they believe the gun violence followed an argument between the 17-year-old and at least one other person.

The video recovered by investigators appears to show a group of unidentified men gathered around an electrical box as Mercedes approaches across the street, the senior official said. A member of the group approaches and meets the victim in the middle of the street where they appear to be arguing, according to the footage. Then Mercedes falls to the ground.

The teenager was pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital 30 minutes later.

Authorities indicate that the child had no criminal record and it is unclear whether he was the target of the shooting.

The five members of the group fled on foot north, towards Oak terracethe senior official said. On Sunday night, police said the group had fled and were wearing balaclavas.

Two shells were recovered at the scene in the hours following the shooting, but investigators have not yet found the murder weapon or arrested any suspects.

The incident was part of a bloody 24 hours in two city counties. NYPD reports have counted at least nine victims of gun violence between Brooklyn and the Bronx since Saturday night.

A few blocks from where the 17-year-old was fatally shot, police said a man was fighting for his life after being shot in the head while sitting inside a crane. According to police, a man on a motorcycle approached the truck and opened fire at around 1am on Sunday.
