Teenage Girls Detained in Fatal Attack on Elderly Man in North london
London, UK - Three teenage girls have been detained following the death of a 64-year-old man after a violent assault on Seven Sisters Road in north London. The attack, which was filmed on a mobile phone, left the victim with fatal injuries.
The incident has sparked outrage and raised questions about youth violence in the capital. The victim, identified as Romulo Rivero, was attacked on the evening of March 24th and died at the Royal London Hospital. Police were called to the scene at approximately 8:20 PM.
In a victim impact statement delivered to the Old Bailey, Mr. Rivero’s daughter, Carla Rivero, stated, “it wasn’t my dad’s time to die.” She described her father as “the nicest person you could ever meet, so kind, never bothered anyone” and questioned “what type of generation of youths is being raised as an inevitable result of all this.” Ms. Rivero also shared that her mother “feels heartbroken and devastated and she cries every day” and “feels scared when she sees youths in the street.”
Authorities have described the attack as “senseless and completely out-of-the-blue” and “on a lone, elderly man.” Detective Inspector Devan Taylor of Scotland Yard stated, “I know how much his death has impacted those close to him and the wider community.”
Taylor added, “The age of the defendants adds to the devastating nature of this incident and they will now have to deal with the enormity of their actions.” He also expressed his admiration for the dignity shown by Mr. Rivero’s family throughout the investigation and thanked members of the public who provided aid to the victim.
Mr. Rivero will be remembered, according to his daughter, “for the kind and peaceful person he was, not in the manner of which his life was taken.”
