Cambodia Unveils Techo International Airport, Signaling New⁤ Era for trade & Tourism

PHNOM PENH, cambodia – October 19, 2025 – Cambodia today officially launched Techo International ⁢Airport, a ‍state-of-the-art transportation hub poised‍ to dramatically expand the ​nation’s ⁢connectivity and bolster its position as a key player in ⁤Southeast Asian trade, travel, and tourism. The inauguration ceremony was attended by ambassadors from France, the United ‍States, the united ​Kingdom, germany,⁣ Japan, Indonesia, and​ Singapore, alongside executive leaders and business representatives from Europe, ‍North America, and other ASEAN countries.

The new airport is operated by VINCI⁢ Airports, with project support ​from ATKINS, Heerim Architects, and consultancy from Singapore’s Changi Airport. Construction was a collaborative ‌effort involving firms from Cambodia, France, and China. The project is spearheaded by⁤ Cambodia Airport Investment ⁢Co.⁢ (CAIC), a subsidiary of Overseas⁤ Cambodian Investment ⁣Corporation (OCIC), in partnership with the State Secretariat of​ Civil Aviation ​(SSCA).

“Techo ​International Airport is a symbol of Cambodia’s progress and its growing role⁢ as a hub for travel, trade, and tourism in Southeast Asia,” stated Pung Kheav Se, Chairman of CAIC and OCIC.

Currently, Techo⁤ International ‍Airport‌ (KTI)​ anticipates serving 31 airlines operating 44 direct routes, with approximately⁢ 130 daily aircraft movements and 13,500 passengers. Aircraft maintenance, repair, and ‍overhaul⁣ (MRO) services will be provided through a partnership​ between CAIC and SIA ‌Engineering Company, a subsidiary of Singapore ‍Airlines Group.

A wave of new international routes is⁤ scheduled to commence in late 2025: Etihad ⁤Airways‌ will launch service between Abu ⁢Dhabi and Phnom Penh​ on October 4th, Turkish Airlines will ‌begin flights⁤ from Istanbul on December 10th, and Air Cambodia, the national flag carrier, ‌will initiate regular service to Tokyo on October 26th.

Designed‌ by Foster ⁤+ Partners, the terminal incorporates ‍distinct⁢ Khmer architectural themes,‍ including a nine-meter Abhayamudra Buddha statue and over 200 hand-carved stone sculptures⁣ created by local artisans.VINCI Airports is implementing modern, energy-efficient operational practices throughout ⁣the‌ facility.

“Techo International Airport will be⁣ the ‍first warm welcome ⁢many visitors receive in Cambodia – reflecting⁤ our hospitality and culture,” said Minea⁢ Kim, CEO of the Cambodia Tourism Board. “Cambodia ​is committed to offering experiences that inspire‌ and delight travelers.”

The airport is designed ‌to ⁤accommodate up to 13 million ⁤passengers annually ⁢and⁤ is projected to create approximately ⁤10,000 jobs,⁢ more than​ tripling the workforce of‍ the ​previous​ airport. The new hub is expected to support the growth⁤ of Phnom Penh as⁢ a destination, highlighting attractions like the Royal⁣ Palace, National⁤ Museum, and expanding tourism to areas such​ as Phnom Da, Angkor Borei (both UNESCO World Heritage candidates), ‍coastal regions, and nature⁢ retreats.

The growth is ⁤backed‍ by OCIC, founded by ​Pung Kheav⁤ Se, which has invested⁢ over USD⁢ 15 billion in Cambodia since 2000, encompassing over 10,000 homes,‌ 100+ residential⁤ and commercial projects, and 15 bridges and flyovers ⁤in Phnom Penh.
