Cambodia Unveils Techo International Airport, Signaling New Era for trade & Tourism
PHNOM PENH, cambodia – October 19, 2025 – Cambodia today officially launched Techo International Airport, a state-of-the-art transportation hub poised to dramatically expand the nation’s connectivity and bolster its position as a key player in Southeast Asian trade, travel, and tourism. The inauguration ceremony was attended by ambassadors from France, the United States, the united Kingdom, germany, Japan, Indonesia, and Singapore, alongside executive leaders and business representatives from Europe, North America, and other ASEAN countries.
The new airport is operated by VINCI Airports, with project support from ATKINS, Heerim Architects, and consultancy from Singapore’s Changi Airport. Construction was a collaborative effort involving firms from Cambodia, France, and China. The project is spearheaded by Cambodia Airport Investment Co. (CAIC), a subsidiary of Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC), in partnership with the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA).
“Techo International Airport is a symbol of Cambodia’s progress and its growing role as a hub for travel, trade, and tourism in Southeast Asia,” stated Pung Kheav Se, Chairman of CAIC and OCIC.
Currently, Techo International Airport (KTI) anticipates serving 31 airlines operating 44 direct routes, with approximately 130 daily aircraft movements and 13,500 passengers. Aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services will be provided through a partnership between CAIC and SIA Engineering Company, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines Group.
A wave of new international routes is scheduled to commence in late 2025: Etihad Airways will launch service between Abu Dhabi and Phnom Penh on October 4th, Turkish Airlines will begin flights from Istanbul on December 10th, and Air Cambodia, the national flag carrier, will initiate regular service to Tokyo on October 26th.
Designed by Foster + Partners, the terminal incorporates distinct Khmer architectural themes, including a nine-meter Abhayamudra Buddha statue and over 200 hand-carved stone sculptures created by local artisans.VINCI Airports is implementing modern, energy-efficient operational practices throughout the facility.
“Techo International Airport will be the first warm welcome many visitors receive in Cambodia – reflecting our hospitality and culture,” said Minea Kim, CEO of the Cambodia Tourism Board. “Cambodia is committed to offering experiences that inspire and delight travelers.”
The airport is designed to accommodate up to 13 million passengers annually and is projected to create approximately 10,000 jobs, more than tripling the workforce of the previous airport. The new hub is expected to support the growth of Phnom Penh as a destination, highlighting attractions like the Royal Palace, National Museum, and expanding tourism to areas such as Phnom Da, Angkor Borei (both UNESCO World Heritage candidates), coastal regions, and nature retreats.
The growth is backed by OCIC, founded by Pung Kheav Se, which has invested over USD 15 billion in Cambodia since 2000, encompassing over 10,000 homes, 100+ residential and commercial projects, and 15 bridges and flyovers in Phnom Penh.
