TechnipFMC wins an EPC contract worth over $ 1 billion at the Assiout refinery

(Ecofin Agency) – The Egyptian authorities have awarded the construction contract for the new production units of the Assiout refinery to TechnipFMC. This will transform the low value-added products of the refinery into about 2.8 million tonnes per year of clean products.

In Egypt, TechnipFMC signed an engineering, equipment supply and construction (EPC) contract with Assiut National Oil Processing Company (ANOPC) for the construction of a new hydrocracking complex for the Assiout refinery.

The value of the contract is over $ 1 billion. It will cover the construction of a distillation unit, a diesel hydrocracking unit, a delayed coking unit, a distillate hydrotreatment unit as well as a hydrogen production unit using TechnipFMC’s licensed steam reforming technology.

“The complex will process low value-added petroleum products from the neighboring refinery of the Assiut Oil Refining Company (ASORC) into around 2.8 million tonnes per year of cleaner products, such as Euro 5 diesel”said a statement from the London-based oil company.

“Assiout is considered one of the main strategic projects to meet the growing local demand for cleaner products », commented Catherine MacGregor, President of Technip Energies.

If the start date of the work nis not yet known, both parties have assured that the prerequisites are beingbe fulfilled.
