Teams and Skype are now interoperable

Microsoft Teams users will soon be able to chat and call with Skype for Consumer users, and vice versa. It will no longer be necessary to install the missing software. In fact, Microsoft has announced the interoperability of its two video conferencing services this month for all Office 365 and Microsoft 365 customers. The deployment of this function, which has been on Microsoft’s roadmap since July 2019, should end in late April , according to ZDNet.

Interoperability will not, however, be enabled by default. Companies wishing to take advantage of this feature will have to go to the Microsoft 365 administration center, then go to the External access menu to allow Skype and Teams users to communicate with each other. To add a new contact, it is necessary to use the email address, which acts as a bridge between the two applications.

As for Skype for Business Online, the application must be replaced by Teams from July 31, 2021. Regarding Skype for Business Server, support is maintained until January 9, 2024, said Microsoft.
