Team Nigeria Dominates All ⁤African Para ‌BadmintonChampionships wiht 36 Medals

Umuahia, Abia State – The‌ All African ‌Para Badminton Championships concluded in Umuahia, Nigeria, on Sunday, with Team Nigeria achieving a resounding victory, securing ‍a total of‍ 36​ medals. The⁣ Nigerian team led the medal count with 10‌ gold, 13 ​silver, ⁣and 13 bronze medals.

This accomplished ‍hosting and performance underscores⁣ Nigeria’s ⁣growing‌ prominence in ‌para-sports and its commitment too⁢ inclusivity in ​athletics. The championships, wich drew‌ athletes ‍from across the continent, serve as a crucial qualifying event for future international ‌competitions,⁤ including the Paralympic⁢ Games. The ‌event’s success also highlights the increasing visibility and support for para-badminton within ‌Africa.

Kenya finished second overall with ⁤11 medals (4 ​gold, 2 silver, and‌ 5 bronze), while Egypt ‍secured third​ place⁣ with ⁢3 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze. ‍Participating nations also included​ Benin ‍Republic, Cameroon, Mauritius, Mozambique, Tanzania,‍ Rwanda,⁤ DR Congo, and Burkina ‍Faso.

Abia State Governor Alex otti, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sir​ Nwaobilor‌ Ananaba, lauded the event as a “festivity of resilience and ⁢unity.” He expressed gratitude to the participating‌ countries and the Badminton World Federation and Badminton Confederation of Africa for their support,‌ adding that his administration is open to hosting the championships again⁤ next year.

Obioma George,Director of Sports in Abia,highlighted the significant contribution of ​Abia State⁢ athletes to Nigeria’s overall success‌ and thanked Governor​ Otti ​for his sponsorship of the⁤ championship. ⁣

Athletes from Egypt, DR Congo,‌ and Kenya ⁢described the championship as⁢ a ⁣memorable⁤ experience, according to reports from DAILY POST.
