Team LeBron wins an intense and successful All-Star Game on the wire!

The evening begins with a vibrant tribute to David Stern and Kobe Bryant, led by a Magic Johnson flanked by all the All Stars. Johnson, intimately linked to the two legends, then asked the United Center to stand up to observe eight seconds of silence. In a cathedral silence, Jennifer Hudson then appeared on the scene to continue the tribute to Kobe Bryant and give goosebumps to the public.

Then take a wink at the legacy of the city of Chicago through a video featuring rappers Common and Chance The Rapper, but also Dwyane Wade, Isiah Thomas, Michael Jordan, and Barack Obama!

Common then takes over to introduce the All-Stars and achieves an exceptional performance, mixing ode to Chicago, tribute to Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, Michael Jordan, and Kobe Bryant, and presentation of each All-Star with more piercing rhymes each other.

Team LeBron jumps to the throat of Team Giannis (53-41)

After the first balanced minutes, Team LeBron accelerates. Led by 4 of 4 by far from Kawhi Leonard and the 16 points of the duo LeBron James – Anthony Davis, she takes an eight point lead halfway through the first quarter (30-22).

Nick Nurse then decides to change his five. He calls on Kyle Lowry, Jimmy Butler, Donovan Mitchell, Bam Adebayo, and Rudy Gobert, but things get worse. Four lost balls in a row give Ben Simmons and Jayson Tatum three dunks, and the gap is 15 points (39-24).

Donovan Mitchell, Bam Adebayo and Rudy Gobert, who score their first points as All Stars, are trying to relaunch their team but Team LeBron continues its festival. Chris Paul hits the target twice from far and sends Ben Simmons to the alley oop to close a first dominated by head and shoulders (53-41).

Giannis Antetokounmpo wakes up his troops (51-30)

Upset by the performance of his team, Giannis Antetokounmpo (25 points, 11 rebounds) started the second quarter time on a mission. While Russell Westbrook sends Chris Paul to the alley oop, the 2019 MVP pushes the ball as soon as he can and scores 14 of his team’s first 22 points (22-14)!

The MVP of the last Finals, Kawhi Leonard, then responded to the Greek by adding two new shots from afar but Team Giannis insisted. In the wake of their captain, he raised his tone of defense. Two blocks by Rudy Gobert and two interceptions by Kyle Lowry allowed them to take a ten-point lead (32-22).

The scenario of this second quarter time becomes the opposite of the first. This time it is Team LeBron who are chaining the lost balloons, and Team Giannis is taking the opportunity to drive the point home! A high altitude dunk tap by Rudy Gobert (21 points, 11 rebounds), giving him 9 points and 9 rebounds at half time, followed by a buzzer beater from Trae Young of midfield offer them this second period on a tray (51-30).

At break, Team Giannis is therefore nine steps ahead of Team LeBron (92-83). Kawhi Leonard is 25 points away, 7 out of 10 by far, placing him just two 3-points from the All Star Game record set by Paul George in 2016. Giannis Antetokounmpo leads his team with 20 points.

Rudy Gobert saves Team Giannis in extremis (41-41)

Team Giannis returns to the field with the same intentions. She quickly took the lead but three award-winning shots from Kawhi Leonard, LeBron James, and Luka Doncic allowed Team LeBron to remain in ambush. Giannis Antetokounmpo then imitates his opponents, followed by a mill by Joel Embiid, but Anthony Davis and LeBron James put the two teams tied (23-23).

With another good run from Rudy Gobert and Pascal Siakam, Team Giannis is five points ahead with two minutes to go in the third quarter (37-32). As a good competitor, Chris Paul decides to take matters into his own hands. He converted an award-winning shot before forcing two lost Trae Young balloons. Russell Westbrook tied at 37 everywhere, before a 3-point from Nikola Jokic gave Team LeBron a point ahead with 22 seconds remaining (40-39).

Following Nick Nurse’s time-out, Trae Young walks onto the touchline and gives the ball back to his opponent. Team Giannis then fouled and Westbrook missed one of his two free throws, allowing Trae Young to send Rudy Gobert to the alley oop to tie with two seconds left (41-41). Westbrook inherits the ball again, but his unbalanced shot falls short.

At the end of the third quarter, Team Giannis still has nine points (133-124). The target score to win this All Star Game is therefore 157 points (the 133 points of Team Giannis + 24 to honor the memory of Kobe Bryant).

Team LeBron and Chris Paul break out the barbed wire

At -9, Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul decided to increase their defensive intensity. The two leaders put pressure on their counterparts, and can go in transition. Westbrook rushes to the dunk while Paul adds two 3-points to reduce the gap to -4 (140-136).

No more fun, the two teams are now here to win. Giannis Antetokounmpo then responds by putting LeBron James under the snuffer and covering his fadeaway with authority. A few possessions later, the King returns the favor by stopping a post up and giving him a look that says a lot (145-141)!

Chris Paul and Kyle Lowry then get out on the defensive. The first causes a loss of ball of Siakam, the second a forceful passage of Kawhi Leonard. In this little game, the two teams remain several minutes without scoring but a 3-point in the corner of James Harden comes to tie the two teams (146-146).

The first to 11 wins the All Star Game

The two teams respond to each other blow by blow, find themselves at 152 everywhere, and the spirits are heating up. A disputed non-whistled foul on a three-point attempt by LeBron James gives rise to a foul on Joel Embiid which makes the whole LeBron Team, Chris Paul first, green with rage. Franck Vogel then ends up “challenging” the arbitration decision, and the video proves him right!

Team LeBron then wins in between. Two free throws by James Harden gave them the advantage, and Pascal Siakam made him one in two in the process (154-153). Team LeBron therefore has the match point, but Kawhi Leonard misses a difficult shot from a distance. In the process, Kemba Walker loses the ball and LeBron James attacks the circle but he is countered by Giannis. The referees whistle against illegal but the slow motion reverses this decision!

A mad end of match

Unfortunately for Team Giannis, they can no longer score. An offensive foul by James Harden gave them a reprieve, but on the next action LeBron James attacked the circle again to bring his team to a point of victory (156-153). A new stop, thanks to a James Harden counter against Pascal Siakam, gave Team LeBron a new match point, but Chris Paul missed his 3-point shot. Joel Embiid then took the opportunity to find a fault and reduce his team to -1 (156-155).

The next action, however, is good for Team LeBron. With five players sidelined, Anthony Davis, defended by Kyle Lowry, comes to ask for the ball under the circle and the Raptors player is forced to foul. Nick Nurse challenges the fault but there is nothing to do. Anthony Davis therefore has two free throws to win the match. He misses the first but marks the second to complete a successful first edition of this new format!
