Let’s Fight Alzheimer campaign with ambassadors Marco van Basten and Humberto Tan

Team Alzheimer launches the 5th edition of the Alzheimer Socks on September 21, World Alzheimer Day. Alzheimer’s Socks are two different socks that symbolize the confusion people with dementia face on a daily basis. By wearing the socks, dementia can be discussed. The proceeds from the sale will go to scientific research of the Alzheimercentrum Amsterdam. The Let’s Fight Alzheimer campaign with ambassadors Marco van Basten, Humberto Tan, Tim Senders and Twan van Steenhoven starts at the same time as the launch of the socks. The campaign was developed in collaboration with campaign agency Sushine en Sausages.

Ambassador Marco van Basten: “The importance of spiritual contact, of talking to each other and of sharing emotions is essential to my relationship with loved ones. Physical contact is of course also important, but spiritual contact ultimately has much more value. My mother was still alive after her brain haemorrhage, but the spiritual contact had disappeared. That is why I am committed to more research on Alzheimer’s disease, because I know what it is like when you can no longer have spiritual contact with your loved ones. Let’s Fight Alzheimer! ”

Extra support needed for dementia research during this special time

“In these difficult times, the proceeds from the socks are extra welcome. At Alzheimercentrum Amsterdam, we work with all our might to face the corona crisis. It is a difficult time especially for people with dementia and their loved ones. They are hit extra hard by corona, because they have a greater risk of getting the disease. In addition, the corona measures have had a disproportionate impact on their daily lives. That is why research into dementia is urgently needed now, ”says head of research Prof. dr. Wiesje van der Flier.

Together with our ambassadors: Marco van Basten, Humberto Tan, Tim Senders, Twan van Steenhoven (Big2) and the famous photographer Martin Dijkstra, Publicis Groupe and its operators have ensured the visibility of the Alzheimer Socks throughout the Netherlands on radio, out of -home, print and digital.
