Maracaibo Teacher Arrested for Alleged Digital Harassment of Minor
Maracaibo, Venezuela - A 51-year-old teacher at the Francisco Ochoa Educational Unit has been arrested in Maracaibo on allegations of digitally harassing a minor. Elvis José Herdenez Silva was taken into custody by officials of the Cristo de Aranza Parish Police Station, part of the Bolivarian National police Corps (PNB), following a complaint filed by the victim’s mother.
The arrest highlights growing concerns over online safety and the vulnerability of minors to digital harassment, even involving figures of authority.Desire Pirela, the victim’s mother, reported receiving inappropriate messages sent to her child via the WhatsApp messaging application.
According to police reports, a commission was dispatched to Herdenez Silva’s residence on the main avenue of Haticos above, 23 de Enero neighborhood, 16th street, where he was apprehended for a crime classified under current Venezuelan law.
The case has been turned over to the public Ministry for further inquiry and prosecution.
