Transforming TB Diagnosis: TAG’s 2025 Activist Guide empowers Action
The fight against tuberculosis (TB) is being significantly bolstered by advancements in diagnostic technologies, leading to more accurate, simple, and efficient detection of both TB and drug resistance. The Treatment Action Group (TAG) has released the 2025 update to its An Activist’s Guide to Diagnostic Tools for tuberculosis, a crucial resource detailing the latest World Health Association (WHO) recommendations for TB screening and diagnosis.
This extensive guide, building upon the 2020 edition, incorporates new classes of tests and technologies endorsed by WHO. Key updates include the integration of computer-aided detection software for digital chest X-rays in TB screening, a refined categorization of molecular diagnostic tests based on complexity and automation, the use of targeted next-generation sequencing for drug resistance detection, and innovative concurrent testing strategies designed to improve TB diagnosis in children and individuals living with HIV.
The 2025 Activist Guide equips activists with the knowlege necessary to advocate for the highest standards of TB diagnostic care. It provides actionable strategies for demanding accountability from governments, global donors, and diagnostic companies, ensuring that everyone, everywhere, has access to timely, accurate, and affordable TB testing.
