Taylor Swift has clarified the inspiration behind her newly released song “Wood,” asserting the track’s origins were far from the suggestive interpretations circulating among fans. Speaking on BBC Radio 2 with Scott Mills, Swift explained the song “started out in a very innocent place,” referencing a creative spark ignited by a simple thought experiment.
The clarification arrives amid heightened public interest in Swift’s personal life following her engagement to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and ongoing speculation about her future career plans. While dismissing rumors she intends to retire from music after marriage as “shockingly offensive,” Swift has indicated a temporary pause from extensive projects like touring. Her recent album release and forthcoming marriage are currently her primary focus, following the monumental success of her record-breaking Eras tour, which generated over $2 billion in revenue.
Swift also addressed turning down opportunities for both a Super Bowl Halftime Show performance and a subsequent tour, stating she is “so tired” and would want to approach any future large-scale endeavor with the same level of dedication as the Eras tour. She emphasized her decision to forgo the Super Bowl was unrelated to Kelce, explaining she was “too locked in” to commit.
In a lighter moment, Swift revealed how her close friend Ed Sheeran learned of her engagement-through an Instagram post. Despite the whirlwind of attention,Swift remains focused on her current commitments and the creative process, defending the artistic intent behind her latest work.
