A few weeks ago, singer Taylor Swift shared on his Twitter profile some statements about the recent purchase of her music without her knowledge. To date, we were quite unknown about how the rights to his music were managed, but the composer of songs like ‘Love Story’, whom we knew a lot about through his Netflix documentary ‘Miss Americana’, wanted to share this information with his followers.
Apparently, the original recordings of the first six albums The ones he worked on were owned by Big Machine Label, the record company under which he worked for the first decade of his career. In June of last year, those originals were acquired by Scooter Braun. In Taylor Swift’s own words, this was a “worst case scenario,” in part due to “the incessant and manipulative harassment that I have received at her hands for years.” Later, Braun sold the rights to his first six albums (‘Taylor Swift’, ‘Fearless’, ‘Speak Now’, ‘Red’, ‘1989’ and ‘Reputation’) to a private equity firm called Shamrock Holdings. Of course, apparently, despite the sale, Scooter Braun continues to benefit from Taylor Swift’s old music and prevented her from buying those rights herself.

This means that since it is impossible for her to control the recordings but she does own the rights to the lyrics, Taylor Swift is re-recording the first six albums to be the one who controls her music completely and Scooter Braun does not benefit.
