Tattoo artist creates viral optical illusion with head tattoo

A photo taken by American tattoo artist Matthew Pehrsons is going viral.

A couple of years ago, Pehrson tattooed his friend Ryan’s clean-shaven head.

Ryan was already heavily tattooed, but on the back of his head there was more than enough room for a small piece of art.

Gigantic illusion

Pehrson, who runs his own tattoo studio in St. George, Utah, tattooed thick lines on the back of his head, shading them to the best of his ability.

The result was an optical illusion that makes it look like Ryan has a giant hole in the back of his head.

– The sickest thing I’ve seen

It was in April 2020 that Pehrson posted the picture on Instagram, and since then it has been going viral online.

After recent mention of, among other things, the viral website LadBiblethe comments once again flow in:

– It looks like he has a hole in the back of his head. Damn, what a good job, reads one comment.

– This is the head tattoo from hell, writes one.

– This is the sickest optical illusion in human memory, writes another.

– This is the most incredible tattoo I have seen, commented one.

– You should get a prize for this here, claims a man.

– Tons of requests

Thanks to all the attention the photo received, Pehrson last year posted a video of the back of his friend’s head.

There, the optical illusion was shown in all its glory, and showed how it looks from other angles.

– I’ve had tons of requests to post a video of the tattoo I did last year, he explained.

He said many people have asked him to show off the tattoo from other angles.

– People wanted to see it from an angle without the illusion, so they could be critical. Of course, the tattoo only looks perfect from a certain angle, he said.

– Laughing at all the comments

To those who might be critical of his work, he said this:

– I have received so many comments that the tattoo makes people sick. I’ve laughed at every single one. Have a nice day.
