“Crime Scene: Azra”: Action on 05/29/2023

A dangerous plan that colleague Eva Brunner from the white-collar crime department strongly advises against. For a long time, Azra has been supplying her with explosive material about the white-collar crime activities of the Datviani-Clans supplies and does not want to endanger their source. Moritz Eisner, on the other hand, primarily wants to clear up the murder and acts on his own initiative when he instructs the young woman to delve deeper into the structures of organized crime in Vienna. The brave undercover investigator believes that Clanchef Beka Datviani is personally behind the murder of his brother and puts himself in the greatest danger during his investigations.

Like Azra disappears without a trace, Moritz Eisner makes serious accusations against himself and seeks consolation from Bibi Fellner – the confidential conversations between the two on the roof of the police headquarters are now part of the “crime scene” like the meetings of the Cologne commissioners at the famous sausage stand on the Rhine. in one brilliant thriller showdown Lieutenant Colonel Eisner and Major Fellner arrest a suspected perpetrator and the case seems to be solved. But then everything turns out differently than expected.

“Tatort” review: How is “Azra” from Vienna?

In the crime thriller “Tatort: Azra”, director Dominik Hartl does not shy away from to keep the tension high with classic and well-tried genre ingredients: The undercover and amazingly powerful investigator Azra has to prove herself before the eyes of the Georgian mafia boss Beka Datviani in hand-to-hand combat against his brutal nephew and a muscular bodyguard in order to gain the godfather’s trust. Or she has to steal a key from the obscure clan boss’s bedroom during a lavish party in the swanky villa, which commissioner Moritz Eisner did without the knowledge of his colleague Bibi Fellner with bated breath observed through binoculars – and the viewer with him.

The Viennese Whit Monday thriller also addresses the social and economic context and dangers of organized clan crime – a criminal cancer that is just as common in Vienna as it is in Berlin or the Ruhr area. But he doesn’t turn it into a sociological seminar, preferring instead to focus on exciting story about nasty gangsters and overwhelmed police officers on the verge of a nervous breakdown. That makes the thriller from Austria after a strong script by Sarah Wassermair something very special.

That brings the thriller from Vienna four out of four pistols in: Look! Everyone talks about it on Monday.
