Merdeka.com – The Monkeypox Task Force (Satgas) of the Indonesian Doctors Association (PB IDI) said (naked) healthcare workers would be the priority in administering the Monkeypox vaccine.

“The indications or priorities for administering this vaccine are for people like healthcare professionals,” said Hanny Nilasari, head of the Monkeypox IDI task force, in a webinar on monkeypox disease and its management, followed online at JakartaFriday (16/9).

Hanny said the government, through the Ministry of Health, has ordered thousands of doses of Monkeypox vaccine as a form of anticipation of cases that are spreading widely at any given time. The vaccine is expected to arrive in Indonesia in December 2022.

The reason health care workers are a priority group is because several case reports that occur, health workers who work intensively in hospitals and carry out tests in laboratories have been infected with the Monkeypox (monkeypox) virus.

Therefore, in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Monkeypox vaccine will not be distributed or easily accessible to the general public for the time being.

Although it is not distributed on a general scale, the second party to which the Monkeypox vaccine is given priority are high-risk populations such as families of patients living in the same household.

In confirmed cases of Monkeypox, Hanny said health care workers need to observe patients until they come into contact with family members.

“People who are in their homes and have been in contact are also shown to be vaccinated. Vaccines don’t prevent infection, but they obviously relieve if the patient has this viral infection, “she said.

The next vaccination is for people who have problems with their immune systems or what are commonly referred to as immunocompromised. With the most appropriate indication for the administration of the Monkeypox vaccine is from the fourth day to the tenth day.

“So people who are primarily immunocompromised with HIV, people who have sexual contact, multiple partners become priorities for this vaccine,” he said.

Earlier, Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said Indonesia has ordered 2,000 doses of the Monkeypox vaccine manufactured by Bavarian Nordic to protect the public from the risk of transmission.

“Since the vaccination, we have ordered 2,000 doses of the vaccine from the Bavarian Nordic assisted by the Indonesian embassy in Denmark, because there is the Monkeypox vaccine there,” said Budi.

As for the treatment of Monkeypox patients, he admitted that it was enough with medications that were still relevant for ordinary smallpox.

However, Budi stressed that the most important thing is to anticipate that the Monkeypox virus does not trigger further infections in the form of pneumonia or meningitis. [ded]
