Tanker and Bulk Carrier Collide Off‌ Singapore Coast, Spill Response ⁣Underway

SINGAPORE – A collision between the tanker Marine Dynamo and the bulk carrier Flag Gangos occurred approximately 8 kilometers south of Tanah Merah at 9:25 AM local time ⁤on⁣ September 1,⁤ 2024. The Maritime and port Authority of Singapore (MPA)⁢ is leading response efforts after light‍ oil sheens were detected near the Marine⁢ Dynamo.

This incident highlights the ongoing risks to maritime traffic ⁣in‍ one of the‌ world’s busiest⁢ shipping lanes. While initial reports indicate only minor fuel spillage and no significant impact to navigational⁢ safety, the event underscores the potential for⁢ disruption to trade and the marine habitat. The MPA⁣ is investigating ⁤the cause of the ‍collision and will ⁣oversee cleanup operations to mitigate any environmental impact.

According to the Marine Dynamo’s ‍ master, the spill consists of Marine Gas Oil (MGO) from a service tank located above the waterline. MGO, a diesel-like fuel, ⁣is expected to naturally evaporate and degrade. One crew member aboard the Marine Dynamo sustained minor injuries – bruises⁢ and⁤ sprains – and is⁢ receiving medical attention onboard.Authorities confirm all personnel from both vessels are⁢ accounted for‌ and safe.

The MPA has deployed patrol and spill response vessels to contain and disperse the oil sheens.Aerial monitoring is being conducted using drones, and a navigational broadcast has ⁣been ‍issued⁤ to warn other ships in the area. the MPA has stated that‍ navigational safety has⁢ not been compromised at this time.A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is underway.
