Tanker catches fire after collision with car: N279 closed until late at night

The N279 at Beek en Donk will remain closed in both directions until probably four o’clock on Sunday night. This is reported by the ANWB. The asphalt was badly damaged after a fire in a tanker that was filled with milk. The fire broke out early Sunday evening after the tanker collided with a car.

The driver of the car has been taken to a hospital. The driver of the truck was unharmed. The road was closed in both directions immediately after the collision. The ANWB advises for the time being to drive via Eindhoven.

More clarity in the course of the evening
Traffic will not be able to use the Provincial road at Beek en Donk again until the police investigation has been completed. We also have to wait and see how extensive the damage is to the road surface and how long the cleaning and repair work will take. “We are doing our utmost to keep traffic disruption to a minimum,” a spokesperson for the province said. The province manages the N279.

The fire was reported just after a quarter past six and the fire brigade fought it with four cars. The fire was brought under control after more than an hour. The people who were in the two cars were able to be removed in time and were checked by the ambulance service.

Road was littered with parts
Police quickly reported that the tanker was not carrying any hazardous materials and that there was no danger of explosion. It turned out that there was milk in it. The collision caused major havoc: the road was littered with parts from the two vehicles.

The N279, also known as the Broekdalerbaan, is a usually busy connecting route between Roermond, Helmond and Den Bosch. Accidents regularly happen here, often with serious consequences.
