Taliban Ask Girls and Widows to Get Married and Become Slaves

Jakarta

A statement claiming to come from Taliban has reportedly ordered local leaders in Afghanistan to present lists of girls over the age of 15 and widows under the age of 45. The Taliban asked the women to marry and become slaves.

As reported The Sun, Friday (16/7/2021), according to reports, the Taliban had promised for them to marry fighters and transported to Vaziristan, Pakistan, where they would convert to Islam and be reintegrated.

“All imams and mullahs in captured areas must provide the Taliban with a list of girls over 15 and widows under 45 to marry Taliban fighters,” said the letter, which was issued on behalf of the Taliban Cultural Commission.

This came as the Taliban continued their massive offensive, capturing swathes of territory, forcing thousands of troops to flee or surrender and seizing the US arsenal of heavy weapons. They were allowed to run rampant as the US, UK and other countries withdrew the last remaining troops after nearly 20 years of war.

Women fear for their future flee the war-torn country as the Taliban take up arms to gain complete control — after controlling 85 percent of Afghanistan.

Because, the Taliban showed no signs of slowing down their lightning strikes, strict rules were applied to those living in the captured territories.

New orders were imposed on Afghans, with smoking and shaving of beards banned in areas and women barred from going out alone. The Taliban warned that anyone caught breaking the rules would be “seriously dealt with”.

Afghan fathers have expressed concern that the Taliban will take their daughters and force them into slavery.

Take over

Haji Rozi Baig, an Afghan elder, said the Taliban’s takeover of the Khwaja Bahauddin Takhar district — the former headquarters of the Northern Alliance that fell to extremists in June — had fueled fears the militants would forcibly marry their daughter.

“Under government control, we are happy and at least enjoying freedom,” Baig said, according to the Financial Times report.

Since the Taliban took over, Baig has been under pressure. At home, residents cannot speak loudly, cannot listen to music and cannot send women to the Friday market.
