ACCEPTED, KOMPAS.TVAfghan citizens with valid documents are allowed to travel in the future at any time.

This is as stated by a senior Taliban official, Friday (27/8/2021), as reported by Straits Times, Saturday, (28/8).

The announcement was made in a televised address aimed at allaying Afghan fears of restrictions on freedom of movement and travel.

“Afghan’s borders will be open and people will be able to travel anytime in and out of Afghanistan,” said Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, deputy head of the movement’s political commission.

The message comes as thousands of people struggle to get the last flight to leave Kabul airport before the deadline for Western evacuation operations expires next week (31/8).

Calling on Afghans to unite to rebuild their country, Stanikzai said trained and educated people should return to work.

“The field is prepared for the doctors, engineers and teachers Afghanistan needs and for people of every profession, whether civilian or military. All are invited to start their work,” he said.

Coming after a separate statement calling for female health staff to return to work, the message underscores the Taliban’s efforts to reassure Afghans and the international community that they are not planning to return to their previous harsh rule.

The desperate scene outside Kabul Airport, where a suicide bomber killed at least nearly 100 people last Thursday, provides a dramatic picture of the fear many well-educated Afghans have at the prospect of life under Taliban rule.
