Taiwan and the US Do Not Change Direction, War Will Break Out

BEIJING – Chinese state media warns as tensions between the United States (US) and China over Taiwan’s future continue “a military fight will ensue.” They also described the possible scenario as a “life and death struggle” between countries.

The Global Times, published by China’s ruling Communist Party, published an opinion piece on Friday after US military officials increasingly warned about China’s threats to Taiwan’s autonomy. The editorial highlighted remarks from US Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro, who last week expressed concern about the “rapid expansion” of China’s navy.

Taiwan, an island nation, is claimed by China under the “one country, two systems” constitutional principle. However, the democratically administered East Asian nation has operated with autonomy and US support for decades. In recent years, analysts have increasingly warned that Beijing could move militarily to take over the island by force.

“We need to make the US realize that no matter what threat it poses or the force it uses, China’s reunification will eventually happen. Setting a stumbling block for reunification across the Straits would mean a fundamental confrontation,” The Global Times editorial warned Newsweek, Sunday (7/11/2021).

Although the publication says China is not interested in an arms race with the US, the media insists that Beijing is more than capable of fighting its rival.

China’s ability to defeat US military intervention in the region is reasonably guaranteed by its strategic will and resources,” the editorial said.

“Any move to block China’s reunification is destined to result in a life and death struggle, which the US must fight while sacrificing American lives,” the Chinese tabloid warned.
