Sept 11 Attacks: What Happened, Flags at Half-Staff & Patriot Day

by David Harrison – Chief Editor September 12, 2025

Flags at Half-Staff ‍Across New York State on Patriot Day

NEW YORK – ⁢ Flags across ‌New York State are flying at half-staff today,‍ september 11, 2025, in solemn remembrance of⁢ the⁤ nearly 3,000 lives lost in⁢ the⁣ terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The lowering of⁢ the flag⁢ is a longstanding tradition observed annually to honor the victims and heroes of that ‍tragic day, and to reaffirm a national commitment to unity and remembrance.

Twenty-four years after the ⁤attacks,⁣ Patriot ⁣Day remains a notable day of reflection for New Yorkers and the nation. While not a federal holiday – ⁣government⁣ offices‍ remain open and mail delivery continues – the day‌ is officially recognized through public law, encouraging remembrance activities, flag displays at half-staff, and ⁢moments of silence. This year’s‍ observance⁤ comes as‌ the nation continues ‍to grapple with issues of ⁢national‌ security⁣ and the enduring legacy of ⁢9/11.

In December 2001, Public ⁣Law ⁤107-89 was‍ enacted, officially‍ designating September 11th as Patriot Day.The law requests⁢ the⁢ President⁣ to⁢ issue a proclamation calling‍ for⁤ state and local governments to observe the‍ day⁢ with programs and activities, for ⁢the U.S. flag to be flown at half-staff in⁣ memory of those who perished, and for a moment of silence to be observed nationwide.

Further solidifying the day’s significance, Public Law ⁤111-13, ⁣passed in 2009, designated September 11th as the National ⁢Day of Service and Remembrance,⁢ encouraging⁤ Americans to honor‌ the victims through volunteerism and⁤ community service.

Tarik Skubal Cy Young Watch: Tigers Dominate Yankees in 11-1 Win

by David Harrison – Chief Editor September 11, 2025

Detroit Tigers Dominate Yankees 11-1 in Repeat Performance

DETROIT – The Detroit⁤ Tigers continued their offensive surge, defeating the New York Yankees 11-1 on Wednesday, mirroring their Tuesday victory and securing a commanding position in the series. The win marked the Tigers’ continued success against a Yankees team ⁣led by a ‌pitcher enjoying a career year.

Early in the game, the Tigers faced a challenge against Yankees pitcher⁤ Carlos Rodón, who was making ‍his 30th start of the ‍season. Rodon entered the game with a career-high 16⁤ wins, tied with teammate Max Fried and Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta for the MLB lead. He‍ had been dominant ⁣in his previous 10 starts, going 7-1 and allowing two earned runs or fewer in eight of‍ them.

Despite Rodón’s strong performance,⁣ the Tigers capitalized on a key chance in ⁤the fifth inning, loading the ⁢bases with one out. ⁣After Rodón struck out Jahmai Jones, it was Miguel Torres who broke the deadlock, working the ‍count full before ‍driving a‍ single into center field, scoring two‌ runs ‌and ⁢giving the Tigers a ‍2-0 lead. This ⁣exemplified the Tigers’ ability to string together productive at-bats and capitalize on scoring chances.

The game shifted decisively after the starting pitchers were replaced. The Yankees’ bullpen⁢ faltered, with four pitchers surrendering nine runs before position player Austin Slater was forced to pitch.

In contrast,‌ the ⁤Tigers’ bullpen delivered a strong performance. Tyler Holton pitched a scoreless inning, followed by two innings from Troy Melton, ‌allowing only one run on a home run by Yankees catcher Austin Wells. Brenan Hanifee then‌ closed out the game with a ⁢scoreless ⁢ninth⁣ inning.

The strong bullpen showing also ensures key relievers will be well-rested for Thursday’s series finale.
