Wuppertal Suspension Railway Damaged in shooting or Pelting
WUPPERTAL, Germany – The Wuppertal suspension railway experienced damage to two windows on Monday evening, October 21, 2025, prompting a temporary suspension of service.Authorities are investigating whether the damage was caused by gunfire or thrown stones.
According to a police spokesman, no injuries were reported.The incident occurred during a journey, resulting in shattered safety glass on two cars. the railway cars have been taken to a depot for further examination on Wednesday to determine the exact cause.
Investigators are considering the possibility that stones were thrown onto the railway from a nearby parking garage, or that a firearm was used. A stone was recovered near one of the damaged cars.
The Wuppertal municipal utilities initially reported the incident as a shooting on their Facebook page, leading to an interruption of service around 6:30 p.m. Service was restored later in the evening after police completed their inquiry.

The wuppertal suspension railway, opened in 1901, is a historic landmark and a vital part of the city’s public transportation system. It is one of the oldest suspended monorails in the world.
