Ukraine‘s‌ Presidential Chief of Staff Andrii Yermak Dismissed Amid⁣ Corruption Concerns

KYIV, Ukraine – Andrii Yermak, chief of ⁣staff ⁢to Ukrainian President⁣ Volodymyr zelenskyy, has ⁣been ‌dismissed‍ from his position, officials confirmed today,‍ as investigations into alleged corruption within the government widen. The move ‍follows mounting pressure from lawmakers and international allies for greater accountability ⁢and transparency in Ukraine.

Yermak’s departure comes amid ‌a period of ⁢heightened scrutiny regarding corruption allegations, including investigations into officials linked to energy procurement and other ⁣government dealings. While Yermak himself‍ was not directly accused of⁣ wrongdoing in those specific investigations, concerns over his ⁣oversight and the individuals connected to⁣ him contributed to the decision. The dismissal underscores Zelenskyy‘s commitment to address corruption concerns, particularly‍ as Ukraine seeks continued Western support for its ⁢defense against Russia ⁢and ‌pursues membership in the European Union.

Yermak⁤ has ⁣been a close ally of Zelenskyy for over 15 ⁤years, beginning with their⁢ collaboration in the television production⁤ industry‍ when Zelenskyy was ‌a comedian and actor. He joined Zelenskyy’s ⁤first ⁤presidential team overseeing foreign⁣ affairs and was⁤ appointed ‍chief of staff in February 2020.Throughout⁣ Russia’s invasion, beginning in February 2022, Yermak has been a constant companion to Zelenskyy on international‍ trips and wielded meaningful influence within⁤ the Ukrainian government.

Domestically, Yermak functioned as ‌a key gatekeeper for Zelenskyy, reportedly playing a central role in the selection of top government ⁤officials, including prime ministers and ministers. Prior to his dismissal, individuals connected ⁣to Yermak and the president’s office had previously been⁢ subject to‍ investigation.

Earlier this month, Zelenskyy faced internal dissent from lawmakers⁢ following the publication of‌ details from an ‍energy sector investigation. While some lawmakers called for Yermak to ⁤take duty, Zelenskyy initially resisted calls for‌ his⁤ removal, ‍urging Ukrainians to unite and⁤ “stop the‍ political games” amid ongoing pressure to⁢ negotiate a settlement ‍with russia.

The European Union⁤ has explicitly stated that Ukraine must demonstrate a crackdown on corruption as⁢ a ⁤condition for potential membership. The dismissal of Yermak ⁢signals ⁤a response to these demands and an attempt to‍ restore ⁣public trust.

Israel Investigates soldiers Over Killing of Palestinian Men in West Bank

Nablus, West Bank ⁣- The Israel Defense Forces ⁣(IDF) has launched an inquiry into the deaths of two Palestinian men shot by soldiers in Nablus earlier this week, after video footage emerged appearing to show the men surrendering before‍ being killed. The incident ‍has sparked outrage among Palestinians and drawn condemnation from international observers.

The‍ two men, identified as Abdul Rahman Jamal and Mohammad ‌jamal, were⁣ killed during a raid in the Old City of Nablus⁣ on Tuesday. The IDF stated the men were suspected militants involved in recent attacks against Israeli settlers and soldiers.‍ Though, widely circulated ‍video footage shows the men with their⁣ hands raised, seemingly surrendering to Israeli forces, before being shot.

The IDF initially claimed its forces came under fire, necessitating ‍a response. However, ⁣the video evidence has prompted⁤ a formal⁣ investigation by the Military Police’s investigative unit. “We ‍are taking the allegations seriously and are committed to a thorough and clear investigation to determine the facts,” an IDF spokesperson saeid.

the incident occurs amidst a surge in violence in the West Bank. As the start of the‌ year, Israeli forces have conducted near-daily raids in Palestinian cities, resulting ‌in dozens of deaths and hundreds of ⁣arrests. ⁢Palestinians and rights groups accuse Israel of using excessive force and operating⁤ with impunity. The West Bank, occupied by Israel since 1967, is home to approximately 3 ⁢million Palestinians and 700,000 israeli settlers. The status of the territory remains a‌ core issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with Palestinians seeking it as part of a future independent state.

Title: Guinea-Bissau Coup: Military Seizes Power, Sparks International Condemnation

Guinea-Bissau Soldiers Declare Junta, Install General as Leader After Election Dispute

BISSAU, Guinea-Bissau – Soldiers in‌ Guinea-Bissau announced Wednesday they have seized power, installing Gen. Umaro Sissoco Embaló as the head of a transitional junta following a disputed presidential election. The move comes after days of escalating tensions and competing claims of victory from Embaló and his main rival, Domingos Revideiro Dias.

The coup, led by military ⁢officers who appeared on state television, is the latest⁣ in a‌ series of political upheavals to plague the⁢ West African⁤ nation. the ‌soldiers cited an alleged plot to manipulate election results involving politicians and a ‍known drug lord as justification for their intervention. This action further destabilizes a country already grappling with a legitimacy‌ crisis and weakened state institutions.

According to a⁢ military spokesperson, Dinis N’Tchama, the “scheme was ‌set up by some national politicians with the participation‍ of a well-known ‌drug lord, and domestic and foreign nationals.”

The announcement followed presidential⁢ and legislative elections where both Embaló, 53, and Dias, 47, claimed to have‌ won. The opposition‍ had previously refused to‍ recognize⁣ Embaló’s⁣ presidency, arguing his initial term had expired. Dias, in ⁤a video statement, claimed he escaped arrest and vowed to fight back, stating, “Umaro lost the elections, and ⁢rather of accepting the result, he fabricated a coup d’état.”

Analysts point to the erosion of Guinea-Bissau’s institutions under Embaló’s leadership as a contributing factor to the instability. Beverly Ochieng, a senior security analyst⁢ at Control Risks, noted the unilateral‍ dissolution of the legislature⁢ and the diminished capacity‍ of the judiciary, alongside pervasive political ‌influence.

Guinea-Bissau has a history of coups and political interference, raising concerns that this latest power grab ‌could embolden militaries in the wider⁣ region,⁤ already witnessing disputed elections in countries ⁣like Tanzania, Cameroon, and⁤ Ivory Coast.

Austria Avalanche: Rescuers Search for Victims at Ski Resort

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor November 27, 2025
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Rescuers are racing against time at Stubai Glacier in ⁣Austria after an avalanche buried three people under the snow. The incident occurred after the resort opened for its 2025/2026⁢ winter season ⁤last month.

Stubai Glacier, ⁢Austria’s largest ski⁢ resort located approximately 45 minutes from Innsbruck, believes the avalanche was triggered by “off-piste” skiers. Emergency services are intensively searching ⁤the debris field. A danger level 3 for avalanches is⁢ currently in effect for ⁣the region, according to the Avalanche Warning⁣ Center at the Bavarian⁢ State Office for the⁣ Surroundings.

The warning center reports that up to 60cm of⁢ fresh snow has fallen in the ⁣last few days, creating unstable conditions. “Fresh snow is the main problem. The fresh snow can‍ be triggered as a slab avalanche by a small additional load,” the center stated. “Danger spots can be found in steep terrain of all exposures.”⁣

The center further warned⁢ that slab avalanches could reach medium⁢ size, and that older accumulations of drift snow, covered by‌ fresh snow, are susceptible to disturbance, particularly at ‍higher altitudes. The ground is currently not frozen, ⁢and the base of the snow cover is often wet. The resort currently offers visitors a choice of 19 ski slopes and 16 ⁣ski‍ lifts.
