Russia convenes the Security Council to justify its invasion of Ukraine on the eighth anniversary of the failure of the Minsk agreements.

“We had no choice but to defend our country”

“The more horror stories we hear in the face of the obviousness that Russia did not implement the Minsk agreement, the more people will understand that we had no choice but to defend our country, defend it from you, defend our identity and our future,” Vasily Nebenzya said. Russian ambassador to the United Nations.

The Minsk protocol, reached between Russia and Ukraine in 2014 to de-escalate the conflict in Donbas, was buried even before the Russian invasion of Ukraine when Putin recognized the independence of Donetsk and Lugansk.

BERLIN – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has personally refused to implement the 2015 Minsk agreements. The agreements are a roadmap for peace in the east of the country, co-sponsored by Germany and France.

Zelensky made the confession during an interview with Der Spiegel published on Thursday (9/2/2023) as he continues his European tour.

Zelensky said he viewed the agreement as a “concession” on Ukraine’s part, and had never actually attempted to implement it.

Instead, the agreement was only used to exchange prisoners with the two breakaway Donbass republics.

The president claims he publicly said this to then German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2019, with all of them feeling “shocked”.

“But for Minsk as a whole, I told Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel: ‘We can’t implement it like this,’” Zelensky said.

Zelensky added, “I told (Putin) the same thing as the other two. They were surprised and said, ‘If we had known beforehand that you were going to change the meaning of our meeting, then there would have been problems even before the summit.’”

DAVOS – President Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky made a controversial statement while addressing world leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Zelensky openly questioned the President’s health Russia Vladimir Putin and gave the impression that he had died.

Zelensky’s remarks come as speculation over Putin’s health continued to swirl throughout Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with the Russian president appearing less and less in public. He made the remarks while mentioning the possibility of peace talks between Kiev and Moscow.

“Right now I don’t know who to talk to. I’m not sure if the president of Russia is still alive,” he said.

“I don’t understand whether he is still alive or he was the one who made the decision,” he added as quoted from Daily MailFriday (20/1/2023).

So far, there is no verifiable evidence that Russia’s number one is seriously ill, let alone died.

But there is much speculation that mentions the possibility of Putin using body doubles.

Experts believe that Kremlin cronies were eager to cover up his death in an effort to hold on to power.

In May last year, British outlet Metro.co.uk reported that Putin’s health had allegedly deteriorated over the past five years and he had undergone two surgeries in two weeks.

But officials stressed that he was in good health despite statements to the contrary.
