Ostalb Clinics Prepare for Flu Season, Report Moderate Infection Increase
The โOstalb Clinics are well-prepared for the upcoming flu season,โฃ with the current infection rate mirroring that โof the previous โฃyear, according to Ralf Mergenthaler, โpress spokesman for the Ostalb Clinics. While noting โฃa moderate increase in โคinfections requiring treatment โขcomparedโฃ to previous โyears, โMergenthaler emphasized the clinics’โฃ readiness to manage the situation.
“With our veryโค well-positioned teams,โฃ weโ are well prepared adn can handle โคthe current situation at the Ostalb clinics well, both in our โemergency departments and in the inpatient area,” Mergenthaler stated, after โขconsulting with doctors at the clinics.
A key focusโข for the Ostalb Clinics is โminimizing hospital-acquired โinfections. โฃToโข achieve this, six coreโ measures are โคbeing implemented:
1. Hand Hygiene: Regular handwashing with soap and water, supplemented by alcohol-based hand disinfectants,is a primary preventative measure.
2.Protective Clothing: Gloves are utilized when handling blood, body fluids,or infectious materials. Mouth and nose protectionโฃ is employed for infectious patients, and gowns or protective suits are used to prevent โclothing contamination.
3.โ Isolation Measures: โขPatients with highly contagious diseases, suchโ as tuberculosis or MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus),โฃ areโข isolatedโ in dedicated โคrooms or areas. Access to โขthese areas is controlled, and visits may beโ restricted.
4. Cleaning and Disinfection: Thoroughโข and regular cleaning and disinfection of surfaces โคand medical devices, โalongside instrument sterilization, โคare โcrucial โฃcomponents of infection control.
5. Vaccinations: Staff are offered vaccinations against diseases like hepatitis B and influenza.
6. Training and awareness: โข Ongoing trainingโ andโฃ education for staff on proper hygiene standards โare considered โessential. “Only those who knowโข can act correctly,” reflects the principleโฃ behind this measure.
Beyond theโ hospital walls, Mergenthaler advises preventativeโค measures individuals can take. “In closed rooms, you can reduce the risk of transmission of respiratoryโค pathogens through regular ventilation, ideally shock ventilation. Especially during waves โคof โillness, when there areโ manyโค viruses in circulation, youโ should wear a mask indoors andโ avoid large crowds if possible. Ifโ you cannotโค avoid contact with sickโ people, they should alsoโข wear a mask,” he concluded.
