“Flex” Singer Cupid surprises Cedar Hill High โSchool Band
CEDAR HILL, โTexas – โThe Cedar Hill โคHigh School band receivedโ an unexpectedโข and โexciting visitโ from Bryson Bernard, the โคartist known โฃas Cupid,โฃ on September 5th. The singer, โfamous for hits like theโข “Cupid โขShuffle” โคand “Flex,”โ surprised students during a marching band rehearsal.
As the band practiced “Flex,” Cupid appeared at โthe front of the band hall, took a microphone,โ and โขjoined in singing โas they played. Theโ band members,โ initially stunned, continued theirโ performance before โฃerupting โin cheers and โsurrounding the artist with excitement.
“I โwas entirely in โฃshock about how a celebrity would โฃcome โฃto Cedar Hill,” โคsaid senior band member Terranceโฃ Phillips.
Micah Neely,โข a โdrum major who was absent during โขthe visit, expressed herโ gratitude for the recognition. “Somebody that’s that bigโค in the industry andโ a big part โof my โchildhood coming to ourโ school and recognizingโค us, I thought โคthat was โawesome,” she said.
The โฃvisit followed Cupid sharingโ a Facebook post praising theโค band’s performance of the song during their first football game of the season, which initially โsparked excitement among the students.
Derrick Walker, Director โof Fine Arts for โฃthe Cedar Hill Autonomous โฃSchool district and the high school’s band director, explained, “We always like to do a little fun, little โfunky dance for the kids.” He noted that the โขpositive social media โขresponse prompted Cupid to make a โขpersonal appearance during a concert tour โstop โin Dallas.
Cupid โขpraised the band’s talent and enthusiasm, telling Spectrum News 1, “Those are some โamazing kids. They were โvery โtalented, very gracious. โฃYou coudl tell they appreciated the โคvisitโฆ โขThey were off the charts, like they did that, โthey sounded great. Kudos to theโค administration and the directors there, โคbecause they really have a great set of kids.”
He emphasized the powerโ of music โคtoโ create opportunities, stating, “the real ‘flex’ is how musicโค opens doors for the next generation โof musicians and leaders.” โค
Cupid encouragedโค the students to persevere, adding, โข”I tell kids the only way you fail is when you quit. The journey is just as crucial as the goal. Keep pushing everyโค day.” he hopes to inspire them to continue striving for successโ both musically โขand in all their endeavors.
