Osakidetza Establishes Flu Vaccination Center in La Casilla Amid Tripled Infection Rates
Bilbao, Bizkaia – 2024/10/24 – Osakidetza, the Basque Country’s health service, is opening a dedicated vaccination center in La Casilla to bolster flu inoculation efforts as infections surge across the region. The move comes as health officials report a threefold increase in flu cases, placing strain on hospital capacity.
A growing number of residents are reportedly declining vaccination, not due to adverse reactions, but from general fatigue with repeated vaccine campaigns. However, the Basque Government’s Minister of Health is urgently appealing to the public to receive both flu and COVID-19 vaccinations, citing current epidemiological data. The initiative aims to mitigate the impact of the escalating flu season and protect vulnerable populations.
The Minister emphasized the importance of proactive vaccination, stating that the health system provides accessible protection. Officials are focused on raising awareness about the benefits of vaccination rather than inducing alarm, but acknowledge the increasing pressure on healthcare resources. The flu vaccine is available through Osakidetza and is intended to prevent severe illness and reduce hospitalizations during the peak winter months.
