Russia on High Alert as Ukraine Commences Retaliatory Assaults on Bakhmut

BAKHMUT – There are signs indicating the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Artemovsk (also known as Bakhmut), has begun.

The reminder was expressed by Leonid Reshetnikov, a veteran Russian foreign intelligence official, to Sputnik.

With Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine underway, Ukrainian Army commander Alexander Syrsky claimed Kiev could soon launch a counteroffensive on the city of Artemovsk where heavy fighting shows no sign of abating.

He wrote on his Telegram channel that, “His troops will seize this opportunity soon.”

“Of course, they (Ukrainian troops) would not give up on Bakhmut, so they kept fighting. The only way to hold a more or less successful counteroffensive is to stop the advance of our troops,” said Reshetnikov, who is also a retired lieutenant general and PhD in history.

He added that Ukrainian troops had resisted for quite a while, but their efforts had run out as many of Ukraine’s weapons delivery routes and garrisons had been cut or attacked.

“Therefore, they are preparing for a counterattack, first of all on the flanks, to bypass the emerging pincers and the siege of Bakhmut by the Russian troops,” said the retired general.

According to Reshetnikov, “There are already signs that such a counteroffensive has practically begun, given the attempts of Ukrainian troops to suppress our forces on the flanks.”

KIEV – Tears of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenksy could not be stopped when he heard the death of Dmytro “Da Vinci” Kotsiubailo, a young commander Ukraine . He died near Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast, on March 7.

Zelensky presided over the funeral of the man who won the affection of the Ukrainian public for devoting his entire adult life to fighting Russia and its proxies. It experienced the deadliest battles of the war and remains hotly contested. He leads a unit called the Da Vinci Wolves and was made a Hero of Ukraine last year.

“(Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s mob took our most beautiful sons and daughters,” the priest said during a memorial service at the Golden-Domed St. Petersburg Monastery. Michael’s on March 10, with hundreds of people crowding inside around the bodies of Kotsiubailo and his family.

Kotsiubailo was the commander of the “Da Vinci Wolves” 1st Mechanized Battalion. “He died with a gun in his hands,” his battalion wrote on their official Telegram channel. “He lived and died like a hero,” the post read.

Kotsiubailo was born in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast in western Ukraine. He was an active participant in the EuroMaidan Revolution, also known as the Dignity Revolution in 2013-2014, when Ukrainians took to the streets to overthrow then-pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych.

Shortly after Russia invaded the Ukrainian Donbass and annexed the Crimean Peninsula, Kotsiubailo took up arms. He was wounded by a Russian tank shell in combat in Donetsk Oblast that same year, but returned to the front after recovering just three months later.

“Eastern Ukraine is really her home,” Melaniya Podolyak, a Ukrainian activist and project coordinator for the Serhiy Prytula Foundation, who knows Kotsiubailo, told the Kiev Independent. He said Kotsiubailo had barely left the front in the nine years of Russia’s ongoing war.

BAKHMUT – Ukraine had decided to continue fighting in the ruined city of Bakhmut as the battle suppressed the best units Russia and demeaning them ahead of Ukraine’s planned spring counteroffensive. This was confirmed by an aide to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The comments by Mykhailo Podolyak are the latest signal of a shift in Kiev’s policy this week towards continuing the defense of the city of Bakhmut. The city was the site of some of the bloodiest fighting, as Moscow troops tried to secure their first major victory in over half a year.

“Russia has changed tactics,” Podolyak said in the interview published by Italy’s La Stampa newspaper. “It had assembled at Bakhmut, with most of its trained military personnel, remnants of its professional army, as well as mercenaries,” he continued.

“Therefore, we have two goals: To reduce their capable personnel as much as possible, and to improve them in some grueling main battles,” explained Podolyak.

“This is to disrupt their attack and concentrate our resources elsewhere, for a spring counterattack. So, today Bakhmut is really effective, even more than its main task,” he added.

Russia has made Bakhmut the main target of a winter offensive involving hundreds of thousands of reservists and mercenaries.

The Russians are reported to have captured the eastern part of the city and suburbs to the north and south, but have so far failed to close the circle around the Ukrainian defenders.

MOSCOW – Russia has repeatedly warned that military assistance from the United States (US) and its allies to Kiev will only prolong the Ukrainian conflict.

Russian Minister of Defense (Menhan) Sergey Shoigu said increasing the supply of NATO weapons to the Kiev regime would not bring Ukraine success on the battlefield.

“Support for the Kiev regime by NATO countries has not led to the success of Ukrainian troops on the battlefield. On the contrary, there has been a significant increase in losses among the personnel of the Ukrainian armed forces,” Shoigu said in a meeting with the leadership of the Russian armed forces on Tuesday (7/3). /2023).

“In February alone, Ukraine’s losses increased by more than 40% month on month and exceeded 11,000 lives,” said the Russian Defense Minister.

The US and its allies have stepped up their military aid to Kiev after Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine.

Western countries have provided Kiev with various types of weapons systems, including air defense missiles, multiple launch rocket systems, tanks, self-propelled artillery and anti-aircraft guns.

Moscow has repeatedly warned the West that by sending weapons to Kiev it would prolong the Ukrainian conflict.

The Russian Foreign Ministry underlined that NATO countries were “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Kiev, and any arms convoy to Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russian troops.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that Western countries were directly involved in the Ukrainian conflict.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, for his part, stressed a US aid package was a direct way to escalate tensions, but that Western aid would not change the course of events in Ukraine.

Zelensky Fights with Commander of Ukraine General Valery Zaluzhny, Here’s Why

KIEV – An internal conflict is ongoing between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces General Valery Zaluzhny.

The news of the clash was revealed by a Ukrainian government source quoted by Bild on Monday (6/3/2023).

Kiev insiders told the German tabloid that the army chief called for a troop withdrawal from the main city of Donbass several weeks ago.

“Zaluzhny advised the president to leave Artyomovsk, known as Bakhmut in Ukraine, rather than continue to defend it as Russian troops threaten to overrun the city,” the newspaper report said.

But Ukrainian leaders declared the town a stronghold, and refused to pull troops back.

Russian troops have made important progress in the struggle for Artyomovsk this year.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner Group private military company, claimed last Friday that the area was “de-facto completely surrounded,” with only one road available for a possible evacuation.

According to US media, Washington had urged Zelensky to withdraw from Artyomovsk and focus on preparing a major counteroffensive for the spring using Western-supplied weapons, but Ukraine’s president feared the moral blow such a move would cause.

KIEV – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky insulted Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “nobody” who was not worth talking to.

Ukrainian leaders have previously claimed Putin may not live at all.

The head of government in Kiev made the statement in an interview with Sky News, which was recorded on Wednesday (25/1/2023).

Journalist Kay Burley asked Zelensky what would happen if he were “in the room alone with President Putin” and whether it would help resolve the conflict with Russia.

He claimed Putin could not be trusted and added, “I really don’t understand who makes the decisions in Russia.”

“Is it too late now?” he asked.
